Capt. Reymundo Mundo became commanding officer of the 34th Precinct on March 1, 2016, after serving as commander of Police Service Area 5 in Harlem. PSA 5 covers New York City Housing Developments in the 23rd, 25th and 28th New York City Police Precincts.

Capt. Mundo started his NYPD career as a patrol officer in the 34th Precinct in the 1990s, when the crime rate was considerably higher. A New York native, Mundo’s parents are from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. He was promoted to captain in 2013.

The 34th Precinct serves the communities of Washington Heights and Inwood of Manhattan, north of West 179th Street, a diverse area with a majority Hispanic population. The precinct is two square miles and has 500 acres of parkland.

“We welcome Capt. Mundo back to our community. He knows our neighborhood and is well prepared to work with everyone in our diverse precinct,” said Stephen Feldheim, president of the 34th Precinct Community Council. “The Council Executive Committee looks forward to working with Capt. Mundo and the precinct’s executive officer, Capt. Peter Andrea, and all the women and men who work hard to keep us safe every day here in northern Manhattan. We are looking forward to a strong relationship with our new precinct commander in the months ahead.”

“The Precinct Council Executive Board also wishes Dep. Insp. Chris Morello well in his new role in the Bronx Narcotics Bureau,” said Feldheim.

The awards were presented to three New Yorkers Aug. 28 by the New York Liberty women’s basketball team and Fidelis Care, a health insurer.

Here is an excerpt from the awards announcement:

A 16 year veteran in the New York City Police Department, Detective Haydee Pabey proactively sustains and nurtures relationships with the Washington Heights and Inwood communities.
